Week 8 Expected Points: It's Cedric Tillman's time in Cleveland

Week 8 Byes: NONE

Hello, and welcome to my Week 8 Expected Points article. If you’re new here and curious about expected points, it’s important to understand that they come from the previous week’s games and are not mere projections. Expected points (EP) assign point values to players’ opportunities based on various factors such as down, distance, and the player’s position on the field. jolina dela cruz age Players can then score either above or below their expected fantasy points based on their performance with these opportunities, commonly referred to as fantasy points over expected (FPOE).

Expected points serve as a usage statistic to help identify players to target in the upcoming weeks, which I aim to highlight in this article each week. Besides detailing a few standout players, I will also provide the highest EP totals from last week’s games for:

  1. 50 running backs
  2. 50 wide receivers
  3. 24 tight ends

With plenty of potential gems to pursue in Week 8, here are some players who piqued my interest.

Running Backs

Week 7 Expected Points

Player | Team | EP | FPOE | PPR

Tank Bigsby | JAC | 24 | -0.2 | 23. 8

Kareem Hunt | KC | 23.6 | -1.3 | 22.3

Joe Mixon | HOU | 20.7 | 5.7 | 26.4

Bijan Robinson | ATL | 20 | 3.3 | 23.3

Alexander Mattison (LV, 17.3 Expected Points) – Don’t look now, but Alexander Mattison is doing what made him notable back in Minnesota. He transitioned from a rarely-used backup to a primary running back, which makes it hard to bench him despite some inefficiencies. Over the last three weeks, he ranks as the RB3 in total expected points (48.9) while being the RB109 in FPOE (-6.0).

In total fantasy points during that span, only 11 running backs have scored more than Mattison, who has garnered 42.9 PPR points (14.3 points per game). Those who overlooked Mattison during the offseason are now regretting it, as he’s currently treated as the sole running back capable of advancing the ball in Las Vegas.

Cedric Tillman (CLE, 18.9 Expected Points) – Tillman’s best performance as a professional came after a significant trade involving Amari Cooper. The 2023 third-round pick showcased his capabilities, leading all Browns receivers in targets, receptions, and receiving yards in Week 7 against the Bengals. He played a significant role, and with upcoming matchups, Tillman could be primed for more opportunities.

Will Dissly (LAC, 16.6 Expected Points) – After a surprising Week 7 performance, Dissly emerged as a key pass-catching option for the Chargers. He led the team in receiving categories, indicating an increase in his role and usage within the offense. However, it’s worth monitoring his health, given recent practices, before considering him for your lineup against the Saints, who have struggled in recent weeks.
